Plum Tucker

Birthday brekkie! One of them at least haha, this was the precursor to my actual birthday celebrations, the one I had with my work colleagues. It took a bit of tricky juggling to get it sorted but in the end we got there! I saw this new restaurant on Urbanlist Brisbane and I had to toss up between going to Plum Tucker or Shouk for breakfast. I decided on Plum Tucker just because Shouk had had blog posts done already. Some day I'll go to Shouk!

So green!
It's quite hard to find parking, but if you can park in this lot! Otherwise be prepared for a lot of hill climbing up and down the side streets.

Yay parks!
It's in the courtyard of this old hotel! Right beside the popular salad/bakery Botanica. L., carpooled with me and we went into Botanica first to see what they had. L., bought herself a cake and a not so small sized box of salad to have for lunch at work afterwards.

Watch out for this place!
This is the first thing you see when you enter the cafe!

Looks nice!
We headed straight to the back, although I have a sneaking suspicion they had more seats inside at the back.

Round here!
At some of the tables, they had a little venus fly trap! Most of the traps had closed but very few of them had flies inside of them. The poor things waste a lot of energy snapping on nothing, so don't poke them or the plant dies!

FEED ME!
I liked the salt and pepper grinders, I don't know why. Here is the menu!

The mismatched size?
L., decided to get the iced Turkish apple tea. A teapot of hot Turkish apple tea and a big glass of ice!

Jumbo ice glass!
She ended up getting a second glass of ice because of how quickly it dissolved under the hot tea. It was an extremely fragrant and sweet tea she said.

The colour darkened significantly on the second glass

I ordered the mixed berry blitz, frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, banana and fresh apple juice. It had a very strong banana flavour that overpowered the rest of the drink. I dislike banana, so I wasn't particularly happy with the taste.

Banana why you so overpowering ):
C., came with us and she wanted an iced coffee! When asked with cream, she said no. Then when they asked her if she wanted ice cream, she said no. The waitress asked if she just wanted coffee over ice, and C., said yes. So the waitress changed her ordered to an iced latte to save on the price. It came in pretty layers in round jam jar, it was a bit confusing on where you could drink out of it really.

Odd shaped cups are cute, but impractical
Oh! They use Supreme Roasters coffee. This was S.,'s flat white from memory.

Coffeeeeeh
Manda., joins us for the first time and not for the last I think! She wanted a ginger flavoured juice and got the Body Boost drink, beetroot, carrot, ginger and apple juice. I remember her saying that there was a strong ginger taste which was exactly what she wanted. I'm still firmly against vegetables in my juice, so I have nothing to say about this.

Suspicious!
The real reason why I was excited about Plum Tucker was that there were six different types of smashed avocado on toast and the choice of one or two slices which is fantastic. You can pick and choose whatever you want then! That being said, I'm not a fan of avo smash, but I know all my friends are so we were all quite excited. This is C.,'s choice, the haloumi, cherry tomato and avo smash, she said it was the perfect size meal.

Oooh haloumi~
S., chose the sweet potato, corn and zucchini fritters, it came with two poached eggs, bacon, rocket, tomato relish, chilli and coriander pesto as well as some toasted turkish bread. I had the fritters on my build your own brekkie (BYOB), and they were quite sweet and soft, like the texture of a good zucchini bread. I was expect a crunchier exterior but it wasn't bad. All the other bits on the plate were delicious, I know because I had them on my plate.

+_+ fritters
BYOB begins here! Everyone else who came with us got BYOB and here are the myriads of plates below. This one is Miss Chatterbox's, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, chorizo and bacon, a grand total of $11 for this plate.

I love choosing random stuff to eat
This is Mr Chatterbox's, turkish bread, mushroom, bacon and scrambled eggs. He ended up having to share his turkish bread with Miss Chatterbox, in the way that partners have to do haha. A grand $12 for this plate! The actual most expensive part was the toast for $4.

Still looking good!
This was Manda.,'s meal, cherry tomato, haloumi and avo smash and a slice of the goats cheese, pistachio, chili and avo smash! I had some of the goats cheese slice and it was a good mix with the avo as it added a nice saltiness counterbalance. Manda., took about ten minutes to decide what she wanted, it was the most horrific word vomit I've ever seen. Anyone who knows me would know that I tend to panic when asked what I want for an order, but I normally just blurt it out. Manda., just had this never ending stream of chatter as she changed her order from one thing to the other. It seemed like anything that entered her head, immediately came out of her mouth. I've never seen the like before. In the end, she was happy with her meal haha.

Such thick toast
I, on the other hand, went for the biggest breakfast I could happily imagine. I got bacon, malted vienna toast, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, mushrooms, spinach and a sweet potato, corn and zucchini fritter, all this for $19! What a grand sight! I probably could have done without the hollandaise sauce in hindsight, it wasn't bad but I was expecting a more voluptuously decadent flavour, it wasn't bad just not worth ordering in my opinion. Everything was delicious, the crispy bacon, the meaty mushrooms, the golden yolk pop from the poached eggs, a thick, dark toast, fresh spinach and that sweet fritter. I would happily go back here again for the exact same thing.

What a wonderful meal <3

L., loves sweets so she decided to get a waffle! She asked how big the waffles were and the waitress indicated that they were roughly 10cm by 10cm and about 5cm thick. She was about to order one when I pointed out that a second waffle was just $2.50 extra, $12.50 for two waffles! The waffles automatically came with berry compote and a choice of something else, L., chose ice cream but then the waitress asked if she wanted anything else. We were all shocked and she clarified that you could have as many other choices as you wanted without extra cost, so she got some thick honey yoghurt added!

Oooh~
The waffles were thick, faintly sweet and with a strong vanilla flavour. The berry compote was delicious, sweet and tart all at once. I had some honey yoghurt and it was super thick, greek style yoghurt, all in all a wonderful mix.

The back of the plate, we got an extra third!
Plum Tucker
Atmosphere: 7, nice shady little cafe with lots of mismatched furniture and lots of greenery. I liked the table arrangements and my cute little half dying venus fly trap. I just disliked all the goddamn flies there were, C., made a big point of emphasising how much she hated having flies around her. We were constantly swatting them, left, right and centre.
Service: 10, wonderful and super cheerful service. Our waitress was very patient with us when we were waiting for more people to show up. She had a great understanding of the menu and was able to recommend a lot of things to us as well as being very patient with Manda as she changed her choice with every half breath. Quick to clear the table and top up our water too!
Food: 9, super delicious food! Super cheap and large proportions too! Plus the cheapest build your own brekkie, I've found anywhere in Brissie :)

KU-O Japanese Restaurant

W., and I went out for dessert one day! We decided to meet each other half way and hit up good ol' Sunnybank. We couldn't decide where we wanted to go as I hadn't had dinner yet so we decided to go to KU-O. I've not been here before and hadn't thought of going here before as I had heard bad things, like the food was overpriced and the opening hours were completely randomised.

The restaurant was too packed for me to take any photos of the place. It's a super cute little restaurant though, cute little booths for small groups. It's a super cute little restaurant though, cute little booths for small groups.

Except this quick photo
Anyway, we got there around 8pm or so and here is their menu!

This is Green Land! It's one of the mysterious description lacking desserts on the menu. It's a big jumble of green tea ice cream, oreos, green tea wafer sticks, mint, whipped cream, plain wafers and a whole bunch of chewy mochi balls underneath everything else. W., managed to eat about half of his dessert, I enjoyed the mochi balls but I've had better green tea ice cream.

Oooh~
As I mentioned earlier, I got the katsu set, it came with quite a jumble of random stuff, a big bowl of rice, pork, chicken and fish katsu, some bright pickles, seasoned seaweed salad, a little deep fried dumpling, edamame, some tempuraed veggies, a pumpkin cooked in dashi, some cold teriyaki salmon and a little teapot of dashi.

The full set
The katsu were all well cooked, adequate if not particularly tasty.

All the katsu!
Surprise! Its a stock!
This is my little side salad for my katsu set! It had some iceberg lettuce, baby corn, one cherry tomato and a light sesame dressing. I love sesame dressing, no complaints here.

My side salad
I also ordered the lychee twist, a mix of lychee, ice and mint frappe. It was actually terrible, I drank the first little bit of the drink and thought that I had a massive amount of that fluffy cream looking plume at the top, the flavour was way too creamy and barely lychee flavoured. I shoved my straw further down and tried some of the rest of the drink and it was exactly the same, much too creamy, barely any flavour and a huge amount of it.
It looked pretty

My phone for scale. As well as how much I left behind.
KU-O Japanese Restaurant
Atmosphere: 7, a very cosy and physically little Japanese decorated restaurant.
Service: 5, pretty average.
Food: 4.5, pretty unimpressed with everything. The flavours weren't very good and that drink was deplorable. I wouldn't go here again even if someone offered to pay for my meal.
